    What is business analysis?

    As Wikipedia defines it, business analysis is "a research discipline of identifying business needs and determining solutions to business problems." In other words, business analysis is one of the main reasons most IT projects fail (according to PMI’s Pulse of the Profession Study, among other sources). Whether it’s unclear objectives, gaps in communication between stakeholders, or poor or changing requirements, all of these commonalities fall under the umbrella of business analysis. Given this, it’s easy to see how the business analyst role contributes to either making or breaking the success of a project. Historically, many believed this was only a small portion of the project management role, and should easily be absorbed by PMs; leaving a single individual to take on the tasks of multiple responsibilities. But as the field of business analysis continues to evolve, the identification of it’s impact on product development is undeniable.

    Business analysis generally considers all potential elements that may influence how well a particular set of business requirements is addressed. This encompasses the organisations, people, processes, technologies and data; including governance models, organisational culture, team dynamics and reward models.

    Business analysis studies can result in numerous output deliverables including current estate inventories, business requirements specifications, risk identification and analysis, cost-benefits analysis, workflow improvement designs, etc.

    What is System Analysis?

    As Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it, system analysis is "the process of studying a procedure or business in order to identify its goals and purposes and create systems and procedures that will achieve them in an efficient way."

    System Analysis and IT audit studies typically investigate the issues with an existing system in order to understand what exists, how it works, what problems it poses (or are anticipated) and what potential solutions may be considered to address those issues.

    The lines between business analysis and System Analysis can (and should) blur as both consider systems as a set of people, processes, tools and data. Our System Analysis focus more towards the technology end of the spectrum and our Business Analysis services concentrate more on the process end and support for the overall business case.

    How does RML change business analysis?

    Requirements Modeling Language (RML) is the way أبعاد describes our approach to business analysis. This guideline of practice, based in part on industry standards and refined by أبعاد’s own unique concepts, makes outsourcing knowledge, strategy and critical thinking a possibility. The models we use and the way we apply them gives us a framework to document business needs and derive meaningful requirements. Some of the ways we use RML to get clear, concise requirements include:

    • Use our OPSD categories with a variation of requirements models to break down large chunks of information into manageable pieces that can be understood by all stakeholders
    • Use our business objectives model to identify and define project objectives, associated with measurable results, to prioritize product features and bound project scope
    • Use our requirements mapping matrix or a variety of requirements management tools to understand all impacts of changing business objectives for a project

    Our consulting team members are hand-picked and trained to become business analysis experts; in fact, we only hire 1 in every 200 people we interview. We embed our staff on your project as an integrated member of your core project team. While we have SMEs in the banking, medical, technological industries, too much domain expertise from external resources tend to create ‘blinders’ and make solutioning formulaic. So our core focus always comes back to business analysis and requirements management. أبعاد also uses a leveraged staffing model during project execution to complete deliverables faster. The end-result is project support that provides a clear foundation for the software development lifecycle, delivered with higher quality, in a shorter time that addresses primary business needs than any temporary staff augmentation program.

    أبعاد can assist your organization to enhance its business and technical capability, maturing core, strategic and enabling services whilst reducing resource consumption on nonessential functions and processes.

    Our Business Analysts, Business Systems Analysts, and Epic Owners have previous experience in complex environments engaging with appropriate representatives to gather and analyses data, evaluate solutions, assist in development and execution, manage benefits and review outcomes.

    Our BA’s and BSA’s deliver actions, deliverables and artefacts that support the successful delivery of the defined and agreed changes including:

    {:Business and System Analysis Steps}

    Similarly, our Epic Owners drive Epics from identification, analysis and Kanban systems through to the approval process. Once approved, our Epic Owners work with release train development teams to achieve the business benefits and features of the defined Epic.

    Recognizing that the inception stage of a project is the most critical to ensure that:
    Scope, outcomes, benefits are defined;
    Resource estimates have been established;
    Business justification is present (based on the above two elements).

    أبعاد places a significant focus on getting it right from the outset so projects/change initiatives are "set up to succeed".
